Veysel Güler

Born in Erzurum in Eastern Turkey, Veysel moved to Izmir, Smyrna at the age of three. After graduating from the Turkish Military Academy in 1994 as a second lieutenant, he participated in the Military Orienteering World Championships as a runner between 1994 and 2007. He won five-times the Turkish Orienteering Championships and ran 52 times for the Turkish National Team. He also won the Gillette Mach 3 Turbo Iron Man Outdoor Challenge (184 km- 28 hours) including Orienteering – Canoeing – Cross-Country – Cycling – Swimming – Mountaineering – Climbing Stages, and Turkish Mountaineering Orienteering Championship (56 km- 6.5 hours).
In 2003, he had his graduate degree in physical education and published his thesis as a book ‘’Education in Orienteering for Kids’. Veysel worked for the Education Committee and the Technical Committee, and served as Chairman of Foreign Relations in the Turkish Orienteering Federation. After retiring as major from the Turkish Military in 2010 he became the Head Coach of Turkish National Team for two years.
Veysel joined the Eon Tours team in 2010 and executes training camps for elite runners throughout Turkey. He is currently the trainer at the Neo Sport Club for children at the age between 10 and 16. His 12 years old girls team won Turkish Championship and 14 years old girls team came second in Turkey last season. He has participated in the O-Ringen Academy twice and is an International Orienteering Federation (IOF) event adviser. He travels all round the world to run in different trains in his age group.

‘’I want to introduce and promote orienteering as a new sport in Turkey, where 60% of population is under 35 years old. My goal is to bring Turkish youth and adults to the international competitive level.’’
